The stories that Daryl has written over the years are a culmination of years of life experience. The pages of his stories are filled with memories, good and bad. Family, friends, and foes are all represented page after page. From these experiences and examples from his books, Daryl teaches the students the importance of using their lives to help them become better writers.

By sharing his life experiences with the students (in baseball, being bullied, and ADHD, as well as his kids), Daryl becomes one of the most relatable guest authors the kids will ever meet. Daryl's interaction with the student body during his author visits is always playful and fun, which makes the kids feel comfortable, and connected to him. Daryl's author school visits will leave the students with a one-of-a-kind learning experience.
